For claimants

Prepare for your independent medical exam.

If you are an injured federal employee attending an exam, this page explains what to bring, what to expect, and how records are handled.

Before the exam

Arrive with the file facts ready.

The exam is medical, but the report must fit an administrative claim file. Bring exact details when you have them.

Confirm the appointment

Review the date, address, arrival time, parking, and any mobility needs before the visit.

Gather records

Bring imaging discs or reports, therapy notes, prior restrictions, surgical history, and medication changes.

Know the injury history

Be ready to describe what happened, what body parts are accepted, and what symptoms changed over time.

Checklist

What to bring.

  • Government or state photo ID.
  • OWCP claim number and claim contact information.
  • CA-1 or CA-2 information if available.
  • Imaging from the last 12 months.
  • Medication list and treatment timeline.
  • Assistive devices you normally use.
During the visit

What to expect.

  • The clinician reviews the available records before or during the exam.
  • You may be asked about injury history, current symptoms, treatment, and work limitations.
  • The exam may include range-of-motion, neurologic, orthopedic, or functional observations.
  • The final report goes through the authorized delivery channel, not informal text or personal email.
Important note

We do not decide your claim.

M&D Federal Diagnostics performs medical exams and prepares reports. OWCP, claims personnel, or other authorized parties make claim decisions according to their process.
